I’m sure you’ve always wondered who the best Sith lords are. I mean, they’re pretty cool and all so there’s a lot of competition! But we can’t just have a best Sith list with only one person on it – that would be too easy. So this blog post is going to cover the best Sith Lords from both sides of the Force!
Definition of Sith Lord
Sith lord is a term used to refer to an individual who uses the dark side of The Force. They are often powerful and can be found in both, Star Wars movies as well as books.
The best Sith Lord of all time is, in my opinion, Darth Vader. He’s not only a powerful force user but also an excellent leader and general! What makes him even more special though is that he was once Anakin Skywalker – the Chosen One who brought balance to The Force by destroying the Sith during Revenge of the Sith. This is why Darth Vader is the best Sith Lord!
Next Sith Lord is Emperor Palpatine. He was the leader of The Galactic Empire and he ran it with an iron fist! But what makes him a great sith lord like Darth Vader though? Well, just as Anakin Skywalker became one so that he could bring balance to The Force by destroying all Sith – so did Emperor Palpatine in order to destroy all Jedi during Revenge of the Sith. This man is best known for his ability to use both sides of The Force which also gives him an edge over other Sith Lords out there!
Sith Lord you’ve never heard of is Count Dooku. He was a count from the planet Serenno who later became the apprentice to Darth Sidious (yep, that’s Emperor Palpatine) and one of two main antagonists during Attack Of The Clones! I think what makes him one of the best sith lord though is his ability in combat – he could go toe-to-toe with Obi-Wan Kenobi without using any weapons at all! That’s why this man deserves to be on my best Sith Lords list!
Sith Lord you’ve heard of is Darth Maul. This man was best known as the Sith Apprentice to Darth Sidious and later became a ninja-like figure during The Phantom Menace! And like Count Dooku, he had no weapon at all – which made him even more powerful (Maul did have two sabers though).
This sith lord deserves his spot on my list for multiple reasons but mostly because he killed Qui Gon Jinn without any help from his master. That’s right: Maul managed to beat a Jedi Master by himself during one of The Phantom Menace’s most intense scenes!
General Grievous was a Kaleesh cyborg general who fought with the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the Clone Wars. He had an intimidating appearance and wielded four lightsabers at once!
Asajj Ventress was a female Sith apprentice who served Count Dooku during the Clone Wars. She grew up in isolation on Rattatak and became an assassin, but later she turned to The Dark Side of Force!
She was not only deadly with her lightsabers (she wielded two!) but also used telekinetic powers and could use lightning as well!
Kylo Ren is the main antagonist in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He’s part of a new generation of dark side users who grew up after Order 66, where all Jedi were killed by Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader.
Ren was trained alongside his twin sister but joined forces with Supreme Leader Snoke when he realized that Leia Organa and Han Solo are their parents!
Qui-Gon Jinn is one of the best Jedi masters in Star Wars history. He was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s master and taught him everything about The Force!
Jinn always believed that there were “greater things” to happen around every corner, which made him an easy target for sith lords who constantly tried to use his mind against him. But Qui Gon Jinn was not easily manipulated – he only fell prey when facing Darth Maul during a battle on Naboo!
This badass Sith lord fought with two red blades instead of just one like most other dark side users before he did. He also used stealth as well as lightning attacks while fighting and killed several Jedi by simply running them through with his lightsabers!
Darth Bane (Dessel)
Darth Bane (Dessel) is one of the best Sith lords out there. He was born on a planet called Apatros and worked as a miner in the Republic’s mines until he killed his wife for taking some credits she had found from him. After this, he joined The Brotherhood of Darkness where he became known as Darth Bane which means ‘the solitary’ or ‘one who bore’. He then came up with the Rule of Two – where only two Sith Lords can exist at any given time: One master to embody power, and another an apprentice to covet it! This mode helped turn down numbers towards just two contenders after Sidious took over Palpatine’s place upon eiditing this rule book that all subsequent sith lords have followed.
Freedon Nadd is another best Sith lord ever. He was discovered by evil sith lords on Onderon where he then lived and studied under them for a while before killing his master in a duel, taking over the planet and its inhabitants as well. This angered King Ommin who sought help from an old enemy of Freedon’s: Exar Kun!
Exar Kun is best described as a Jedi gone bad. He was already pretty powerful for his age but felt like he needed more and started learning the dark arts of Sith magic which allowed him to create illusions, control minds, and even open up portals in space! After he learned everything there was about the Sith (and some would say became one with them), he went on a rampage across Yavin IV where he killed almost all younglings before Ulic Qel-Droma defeated him using what came to be known as The Force Disruption Crystal – much later perfected into Kylo’s crossguard lightsaber! He has also been featured in other Star Wars games such: Knights of the Old Republic II, etc
Ulic Qel-Droma is best remembered in the Star Wars universe for his time as a Sith Lord and how he turned to the light after killing his brother Cay. He then helped defeat Exar Kun which took him down from being on top of this best Sith list! His lightsaber combat skills are also impressive, but it’s unfortunate that they’re not enough to save him from dying during The Great Sith War.
Marka Ragnos was best known for being the Sith Lord who united all other factions into The Sith Empire and started ruling it with an iron fist. He is best remembered in history as having his body entombed in a Sarcophagus which allowed him to keep on living! His death definitely did not stop this sith lord from remaining at number one, however, since he has been added onto many Star Wars games such as Knights of the Old Republic. If you are really into start wars check out our Star Wars character quiz.
Revan is best known as being the sith lord to come from The Jedi. He was brought back to life by a Sith Lord who first took his place in order for him not to reveal what had happened, and he quickly became one of their best once again! He can be remembered through Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars games that followed, etc.
Darth Plagueis is known for his work in attempting to create a life by influencing midi-chlorians. He also had a son named Darth Sidious, who ended up killing him after he did not teach his apprentice everything he knew about the dark side of The Force. Many fans are really excited that this character may be appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!
Sidious’ master’s death was what led Palpatine to rise through the ranks and become Emperor so it could be argued that without Plageuis there would never have been an Empire – such as we know it today! So I’m pretty sure most people will agree when I say “long live Darth Plagueis” because if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have a best Sith list in the first place.
Some of you might be wondering, “Who is Darth Vitiate?” So I’m going to get the ball rolling here and talk about this Sith Lord-
In Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords it’s revealed that this evil dude has been around for over a thousand years! He was born during the Ancient Sith Wars as Tenebrae but he went by another name later in life… Lord Vitiate! But his time on earth didn’t last forever because pretty soon he took all life forms from every planet in his empire so that he could live longer, especially since some Jedi were closing in on him at one point.
The best part? Now we know why he went all emo and started wearing black robes in the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He’s a Sith Lord – it comes with the evil territory! So, there you have it… Darth Vitiate is Sith’s lord because he killed everyone on his planet so that he could live longer. Or maybe not- depending on your point of view I guess? Either way, this dude has some serious skills if he can pull off something like that!
I think the best sith lords are ones that we see in movies and books so it’s a little bit harder to choose one from The Old Republic era. But, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Darth Malak is pretty worthy of being called best Sith Lord – even if he was just an apprentice! So who was this jerk? Well, his real name was Alek (seriously!) but he took up the identity as Darth Revan’s apprentice after training with him for some time at the beginning of Knights of the Old Republic game- which happened during video games set thousands upon thousands of years before Episode IV ever came about.
Darth Malgus is best known for his role in the Sacking of Coruscant – which kicked off the Great Galactic War. He was a member of the Sith Empire and he fought on behalf of them during this war against their sworn enemies: The Galactic Republic. Not only did Darth Malgus destroy numerous ships, but also killed hundreds if not thousands with his brute strength alone! His physical power, as well as telekinetic abilities, made him an extremely dangerous foe to have around. It also helped that he carried two lightsabers at all times so there’s no way to defend from such attacks! Don’t believe me?
As you can see, there are many Sith Lords that have made their mark on the Star Wars universe. The next time you think about who is your favorite one remember this list and compare it to your favorites! There’s no wrong answer when it comes down to which of these sith lords will reign supreme in the battle for control over all things dark side related. I hope you enjoyed reading about the best Sith Lords of all time.
