The best horror movies on Amazon Prime are a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. Whether you’re looking for something that will make your skin crawl, or simply want an interesting movie to watch with friends, these options should have you covered. In this blog post, we’ll be covering the best-rated horror movies available on Amazon Prime and what makes each one unique.
-
The Shining
The first movie on our list is The Shining. This movie is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and follows a family in winter as they’re snowed into their hotel for the season. However, it turns out that there’s an evil presence in this particular building, which poses quite a threat to them all.
This film has been rated at 97% by Rotten Tomatoes and features stars like Jack Nicholson (the lead actor), Shelley Duvall (his wife), Danny Lloyd (their son), and Scatman Crothers (a cook). It clocks in at 197 minutes long so you’ll want plenty of time to watch this one!
One thing that makes this movie unique is its emphasis on suspense rather than horror–

A Quiet Place
Next, there is a Quiet Place. This is a film that has been rated 97% by Rotten Tomatoes and features Emily Blunt, John Krasinski (the lead actor), Noah Jupe (his son), and Millicent Simmonds (a deaf daughter). This movie was released in 2018 but it’s already managed to become the highest-grossing horror movie of all time. It’s based on complete silence–if you make any sound at all then the evil monsters will come after you.
One more thing about this film: there are subtitles! So if you’re not good with English or don’t have a hearing disability, those won’t be an issue for you while watching these terrifying scenes.
-
Hush
The third-place belongs to Hush. This is a film that has been rated 100% by Rotten Tomatoes. The story revolves around an old woman living in the woods who wants to keep her baby away from some terrible evil person (who we never see) so she stays silent all day, every day–all while still cooking and cleaning for herself as best she can!
This film was released in 2016 but it’s already managed to become one of the best horror movies on Amazon Prime. You’ll have no problem watching this with subtitles if you don’t speak English or even when there are loud noises happening like thunderstorms because, again, silence is key here.

Get Out
The best horror movies on Amazon Prime are not all about the suspense and terror of one particular scene. This film has interesting twists and turns that will keep you guessing throughout its entirety.
This is a 2017 movie starring Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, and Bradley Whitford, so it’s got some great actors in there to give you an even better show! The story focuses mostly on Chris Washington who visits his girlfriend’s family estate only to find out they’re racist people–and these racists don’t like him being black at all! Get Out was also rated 100% by Rotten Tomatoes too which makes it seem like we have two best horror movies on Amazon Prime here!

It Follows
Yes, this movie follows you…literally! This is a 2015 horror movie that focuses on this girl who has been pursued by something without knowing it’s following her. It takes the form of any person and follows them until they either have sex with someone else or get killed. For some reason, she can’t escape from its grasp so she goes to see if there are others in the same situation.
It Follows was rated 100% by Rotten Tomatoes too as well and for good reasons–it’s really creepy! I would recommend watching this one at night when you’re all alone because that will make it even more frightening.
-
Cabin in the Woods
There is something special going on in this cabin, and we’re not sure what it is.
This movie was made by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard back in 2012 but has remained a cult-classic horror film for all the right reasons–it’s one of those films that will have you questioning everything! There are lots of twists and turns which keeps things really interesting to watch.
-
The Exorcist
Ama not sure that there is a movie that has been so well-known for being terrifying as The Exorcist.
This particular horror film was made back in 1973 and it remains to be one of the best ones! It does have some graphic content which might not make this appropriate if you’re watching with your kids, but otherwise, I would highly recommend checking out this classic.

Rosemary’s Baby
This movie is a must on this list. I’m not sure if you’ve seen it, but this is one of those must-watch horror movies to watch on amazon prime.
It’s about a couple who moves into an apartment building and they’re expecting their baby soon-but something goes wrong with the pregnancy. There are some pretty scary moments in this movie! I would recommend watching it at night so that will make those scenes even more frightening.
-
Black Swan
This one is a little different from the rest, but I found it to be so creepy and impressionable.
It’s about an innocent ballerina who slowly starts losing her own mind as she becomes the lead dancer in Swan Lake. She has these disturbing hallucinations that push her over the edge. This movie will leave you gasping for breath!
-it was also ranked number 20 on IMDb’s list of best horror movies ever made! So if you’re looking for something new to watch this Halloween season or just want some more recommendations, then please check out this blog post of mine! 🙂

The Babadook
This little boy has been seeing things and constantly talks about them- like monsters coming out of closets or shadows lurking around corners at night. One day, while reading from their favorite book: “Mister Babadook,” he becomes convinced it was just made up by their mother because they can’t find him in any other books on the shelf (even though she insists he’s not). They go into an argument where Amelia says she wishes Mr. Babadook would come for Sammie as revenge for all of the mean things he did

Annabelle (film)
If you did not hear about Annabelle, you probably don’t watch horrors at all. Released in 2014, this film is about a doll with some dark history of its own.
Annabelle was once owned by Ann and John who got divorced not long after she took custody of the doll. The story goes when they were still together, one day they came home to find that their daughter prohibited her room but there on top of the bed was Annabelle’s lifeless body. They report it as an accident; however, nobody knows what happened really because no investigation was done at all even though both parents agree on telling people it was just kids playing around again (the same thing happen before).
All this time later, we don’t know if any real events did take place or whether those are just stories from old Folks.
-
Insidious (film)
We came to the end of the list where we find Insidious. This movie is an example of a horror thriller, and it has three versions.
This was filmed in 2010 by James Wan who just came from The Conjuring (2013). This one doesn’t have the famous Patrick Wilson but Rose Byrne instead.
The premise is about Josh Lambert that moves with his wife Renai to their new home because she’s expecting twins soon; however, there are some strange things happening in the house which make them stick around longer than they planned. At first, they thought something supernatural was taking place but later on find out that this happens when somebody has passed away nearby as the spirit gets attracted to their life force and starts haunting them.
Josh ended up being taken over by someone else, not only physically but also mentally.
