The Best Greek Comedy Movies, Ranked and loaded to watch

If you’re looking for a light-hearted comedy to watch this weekend, then look no further than one of these greek comedy movies A lot of people think that greek comedies are all the same – but they couldn’t be more wrong! We’ve compiled a list of the best greek comedy movies so you can get your laughs on without breaking the bank.

The funniest greek comedy movies are:

  1. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

This is one of the funniest greek comedies out there. If you love romantic comedy movies, then this should be at the top of your list! It’s a story about Toula (Nia Vardalos) who must deal with her family and their traditions while she tries to find happiness on her own terms – all while falling in love. Great for people that enjoy some culture mixed in with their laughs!

  1. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

This is the follow-up to one of the best greek comedy movies and it’s just as good! If you loved Toula in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” then you’ll love her even more in this sequel.

“We’re ready for another chapter.”

The movie focuses on Toula, Ian (John Corbett), and their family after they’ve been living happily ever since the first film – or so we think? … What could go wrong with a wedding?! You’ll have to watch what happens next if you want to find out! A great addition that expands on an already hilarious series.

  1. My Life in Ruins

A film about a woman who has never been to Greece and ends up in the country after an unfortunate incident. She finds herself struggling with culture, language, love, and learning how she can live her life from this point on. The story is told by both Tessa’s voiceover narration as well as flashbacks of other people talking about what it was like for them during WWII while they were living through the Nazi occupation.

The movie starts off pretty bleak but eventually becomes uplifting towards the end because we see that even though many things don’t go according to plan in life there are always ways around these obstacles if you’re willing to put some work into it!

  1. The Wicker Man

Another great Greek comedy is “The Wicker Man”. This movie is about a police officer who travels to an island in search of his missing daughter. He investigates the disappearance and discovers that he’s being followed by some strange woman dressed only in black clothes. They can’t speak English, but they seem like innocent people. The policeman starts suspecting them as suspects when he finds out that there was no sign of any foul play on her body or clothes!

This comedy movie had many funny moments while trying to prove the innocence of these mysterious women from the island. It has been remade into two more films because it gets so much attention for its dark humor!

  1. Zorba The Greek

5th on the list of the best greek comedy movies is “Zorba The Greek.” This movie tells the story of two people who are in love with each other’s worlds but can never be together. Zorba is an extroverted carefree man while Alexis was a reserved intellectual. The trailer for this film provides some insight into what to expect from it:

“An extraordinary meeting between East and West that yields unexpected wisdom on friendship, cultural difference, and modern-day occupations.”

  1. Lemon Popsicle 2

The sixth best greek comedy movie on my list is “Lemon Popsicle.” This film follows a group of high school friends who are struggling to find themselves in the face of adulthood. One day, they come across an abandoned lemon popsicle factory and turn it into their own personal playground. They also have more than one thing going for them as our protagonist Toula becomes pregnant with her first child! It’s about teenage pregnancy and relations between parents-to-be when people still think that kids should not be born before marriage. The story teaches us how important love can be in life and what responsibility means for every person living today on planet Earth.

  1. I’m All Right Jack

As we continue through our list, the next movie on the Greek comedy movies list is “I’m All Right Jack.” This film has political satire and black humor in it. It’s a story of a normal working-class family that struggles with everyday life like job insecurity or lack of money for expensive things they want to buy while their kids are dreaming about a new car, a big house, etc.

This film title is from the British wartime slogan meaning ‘keep calm and carry on.’ The phrase was brought back into use by Tony Blair after the 11th September 2001 attacks as his response to this terrorist attack.

  1. I Hate Valentine’s Day

Next on our list of greek comedy movies is “I Hate Valentine’s Day”. This movie has nothing to do with love or romance. It tells the story of a doctor who spends his time organizing murders for other people, but then falls in love and things get complicated.

The main protagonist in this film is George Panopolis (played by Iain Glen), a psychiatrist living in London. His life becomes more complex when he starts an affair with one of her clients called Elizabeth Elgottesen (Rachel Weisz). He discovers that she had been married to Johnnie Dallerup-Leeson (Richard E Grant) even though they are separated now.

  1. The Fiancé (TV Series)

Next on our list of greek comedy movies is The Fiancé, a Greek TV series. This show tells the story about Katerina and Dimitris, who are in love but refuse to get married until they find jobs and have enough money. They decided that if one month goes by without either finding a job or getting any extra money then they will marry each other for real!

This show follows their misadventures as they try to cross paths with people who could offer them work opportunities. It also shows how tough it can be when you grow up in Greece during these economic times. If anything, this tv series makes us appreciate what we already have even more than before because there are many things we take for granted.

  1. The Adventures of Hercules

This greek comedy movie got the 10th spot because of all its hilarious moments. It is about Hercules, who wants to be a great hero just like his father was. But rather than following in his footsteps he starts working on his own heroic deeds and making up stories that weren’t true. For example, when Hera needs help from Zeus her husband, she sends Hercules so Zeus can focus on saving their son, Herakles (Hercules’ half-brother). This film also stars Ricki Lake as Peleus and Linda Gray as Eurycleia.

It ranks at number ten mainly for comedic reasons, but it does have some serious issues going on within this storyline too which will make you laugh even harder! The

  1. Never on Sunday (1960)

It’s a romantic comedy greek movie about Kyriaki, who is an exotic dancer in Athens. The film follows her as she goes on the town with one of her customers and spends time at his home. In this

Greek Comedy Movie there are many funny moments like when Kyriakie tries to dodge going into work which leads to some playful banter back and forth between herself and Mr. Antonopoulos (played by Jules Dassin). It also stars Melina Mercouri, Giannis Fortis, Thomas Hulce, Dimitris Horn, Nana Poulou et alia all playing their parts well!

The 11th spot belongs to Never on Sunday for its comedic dialogue that will have you

  1. The Trojan Women (1971)

This greek comedy movie is an adaptation of a Euripides play and it was filmed in 1971. It’s about the aftermath of the Trojan War, where most men are killed on both sides, leaving women to fend for themselves as they deal with their new lives- often against each other

The only downside to this Greek Comedy Movie is that there isn’t really enough dialogue for you to be able to laugh out loud from just watching it. However, certain scenes such as when Hecuba has her baby or when she says “we have lost everything” will make your heart well up with sorrow and empathy! The performances were all phenomenal too so I recommend giving this one a go if you’re looking for something more serious.

  1. Ulysses’ Gaze

Last on this list is Ulysses’ Gaze, a 1991 film that is also set during the aftermath of the Trojan War. It follows a group of people who are trying to find their way home after being scattered by war and it stars both European actors as well as actual Greeks from various parts of Greece!

This movie was really good because they incorporated many different perspectives other than just one person’s story which I think made for an interesting viewing experience- plus there were some memorable scenes too such as when Penelope tries to kill herself out of frustration with her life.

I would recommend this movie if you’re looking for something more serious but still want plenty of humor in between those moments.

If you’re looking for something a little more serious or suspenseful then these greek comedies might not be for you – but if You are looking to burst into tears from laughing watch the Greek Comedy movies
