The most powerful Sith in the Star Wars Universe are those who have been most successful or most creative. This list is not ranked by proficiency with the dark side of the force but rather by who has had the most success using it to achieve their goals.
Darth Sidious, most commonly known as Emperor Palpatine is the most powerful Sith in Star Wars. Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) had become so adept at using the dark side of the force that he was able to turn his son Luke away from it but even this masterful display wasn’t enough for him to defeat Darth Sidious.
The most powerful Sith Lord would have been too strong for anyone to beat and only one has ever come close – Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader who almost defeated him until he joined forces with Luke.
Darth Bane was a Sith Lord who re-established the Sith and created the Rule of Two. This rule stated that there would only be two Sith at any one time, a master to embody power and an apprentice to crave it. These rules were established when Darth Bane restructured the order after most had been wiped out by Jedi Knights during what became known as The New Sith Wars which lasted for about 1000 years.
Darth Plagueis was a Sith Lord who learned how to manipulate midi-chlorians in order to create or prevent life. Darth Sidious claimed that he himself could save those he wanted from dying but never actually did it, however, the most powerful Sith of all time managed it on a regular basis and this gave him many opportunities for mischief as well as allowing him to cheat death. In his later years before being murdered by Palpatine, Darth Plagueis had become so successful at using the dark side of the force for evil deeds that most didn’t know what would happen when he died – if anything would.
Darth Vitiate was a Sith Lord who conquered most of the known galaxy and ruled it as The Sith Emperor for over 300 years. During this time he amassed so much knowledge that even most Jedi didn’t know what all his powers were but simply knew him to be too powerful to defeat. The most powerful Sith lord had no real weaknesses except perhaps arrogance which may have been why Palpatine killed him during their final duel on Dromund Kaas – however, Darth Sidious wasn’t able to kill an infant Anakin Skywalker/Vader either because they both shared elements of each other’s power making them equally matched in some ways despite being very different people.
Ulic Qel Droma
Ulic Qel Droma was a Jedi Knight who fell to the dark side but later returned and defeated most of his fellow Sith Lords. He became so powerful that he had no real enemies left until Darth Nihilus showed up in an attempt to destroy both Ulic as well as the rest of the galaxy – it is rumored that if they fought, only one would have survived though there’s no evidence for this. He has been largely forgotten about because most people don’t know much about him or what exactly happened when he died which makes him hard to place on any list ranking most powerful sith – however, we do know that Palpatine considered him strong enough not to be killed quickly by Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader making him most powerful Sith in Star Wars Universe.
Ajunta Pall was a Jedi Knight who became the most powerful Sith in the universe after falling to the dark side. It is believed that he founded The Dark Reaper Strike Force which later turned into the Imperial Knights though we can’t be sure and there’s no evidence for this either way but it would certainly explain how they managed to remain hidden from everyone else while still having enough influence/power themselves. After Ajunta Pall left Coruscant, very little more is known about him or where his power came from increasing his mystery and making him most likely one of most powerful sith ever – whether you believe he started what later became The Dark Reaper Strike Force or not doesn’t really matter as the fact remains same: created a virtually unknown organization which proved most powerful Sith in the universe.
Marka Ragnos was the most powerful sith in the universe after he rose to power until his death. He had so much raw strength that most of what is known about him comes from legends and stories rather than facts though we do know a bit more now thanks to recently discovered journals. Though most people don’t think Marka could use lightsaber effectively, it would have been impossible for Sith Lords not to notice such incredible force powers which give us reason enough to believe the idea that Emperor Palpatine may have sought out some knowledge about the most powerful sith on Korriban – some information allowed Darth Sidious/Palpatine become the most dangerous person in entire galaxy himself as well as gain access to hidden network of ancient Sith lords called Dark Force Temple.
Naga Sadow most powerful Sith in the universe and created the most dangerous army of warriors who were obsessed with their own power – Gav Daragon was one such warrior. Due to Naga’s obsession with power, he committed the most terrible acts before his defeat when Ludo Kressh challenged him for the title of most powerful Sith Lord. Though it wasn’t until a millennium later that Marka Ragnos had been longer reigning most powerful Sith Lord than Naga so if you were looking at the entire dynasty then Emperor Palpatine would be titled as most successful emperor but if we look solely on individual then there is no question about being able to call only Naga strongest ever dark-sider throughout history!
Exar Kun most powerful Sith in the universe and was most successful at spreading teachings of the dark side to other Jedi – he even managed to corrupt Vodo Siosk Baas who later became Mandalore. His immense power allowed him to fight against an entire group of students when they came back with a mission to kill Exar, something few would have survived if it wasn’t for his former master entering the room which distracted him enough to give them time to escape. When Marka Ragnos died without an heir, there were many who believed that the only person worthy of becoming the new most powerful Sith Lord was none other than Exar Kun because he had already amassed so much strength and therefore become most dangerous person ever created both then as well as now making him most feared dark-sider ever.
Though most people don’t realize how powerful Exar Kun was, he managed to fight against Naga Sadow and Ulic Qel Droma simultaneously without any support from his Sith followers making him the most powerful sith in the universe second time as well – it would be interesting to know whether or not Emperor Palpatine studied some of the lessons that most dangerous dark-siders throughout history learned because if so then there’s no question about fact being able to call this emperor most successful one too!
Darth Nilhius most powerful Sith in the universe because he was most successful at infiltrating the Jedi Order and feeding them false information. Though most people don’t realize how dangerous Empire can be if Emperor Palpatine starts using Force powers, this becomes more understandable when we look back on the history of Darth Nilhius who had so much strength that few sith could ever dream about having which made him most feared dark-sider without question!
Darth Revan is the most powerful sith of all time. He obtained great power through his study and knowledge of the force, was able to control Jedi Knights in order to train them into Sith, and had exceptional leadership skills which enabled him to conquer entire civilizations.
Darth Malgus most powerful sith of all time. He was able to control Jedi Master Ven Zallow during a battle, causing him great pain and eventually killing him. Darth Malgus could also destroy entire armies without being near the combat zone by using his powers as well as telekinetic abilities that allowed him to choke or throw enemies off buildings with ease.
Kylo Ren most powerful sith from the latest Star Wars movie. He is a new and improved version of Darth Vader, which makes him very dangerous. Kylo Ren has an advantage over most Sith in that he can use light as well as dark side powers to gain the upper hand in any fight or battle situation.
The most powerful Sith may not be obvious but their influence on galactic history speaks for itself!
Asajj Ventress most powerful sith of all time. Asajj was the most feared Sith in the galaxy during her time and led a band of bounty hunters to countless victories over both Jedi Knights and other Sith Lords. Her skill with a lightsaber is unmatched, as she killed three dark Jedi by herself without being injured or losing any part of her clothing (lightsaber holes aside). Asahej uses twin sabers while fighting which makes it harder for anyone to approach her from behind. In addition to that, Ventress has exceptional combat skills that allow her not only to defeat opponents but kill them quickly before they have an opportunity to fight back.
Darth Talon most powerful sith of all time. She is most famous for serving under Darth Krayt, and was among those responsible for his rise to power as Emperor in the wake of Palpatine’s death during the events known as “the shattering”. Darth Talon has exceptional fighting skills that allow her not only to defeat opponents but kill them quickly before they have an opportunity to fight back. In addition to being a master at dueling with either two lightsabers or one lightsaber and a double-bladed spinning lightsaber staff, she can also use Force Lightning which makes it difficult to approach her from behind. Having served under both Asahej Ventress and Mother Talzin, it goes without saying that this Sith Lady is most powerful and most dangerous.
Karness Muur most powerful sith of all time. He is most famous as the leader of the Rakghoul plague outbreak in the planet Taris and for creating unique lightsaber hilts that are rare even among other Sith Lords. Muur was able to infect an entire civilization with a disease that turned them into creatures known as Rakghouls, could use Force Choke to kill his opponents or hold their throat closed until they lost consciousness, and possessed telekinesis powers that allow him to move objects at will. He also created unique lightsabers called “Muur Talisman” which contained living sentient crystals inside (known as Exar Kun’s Spirit) who were capable of draining life energies from enemies while simultaneously making their wielders stronger.
Darth Cognus most powerful sith of all time. Darth Cognus was once a Jedi and is most famous for being the one who created Rule of Two, which states that there can only be two Sith at any given time: master and an apprentice. Cognus also possesses exceptional dueling skills with both lightsabers as well as Force choke powers to kill her opponents quickly before they have the opportunity to fight back. In addition, she has telekinesis abilities allowing her to control objects from afar – such as people’s movements or even their minds! She was known to possess ancient manuscripts regarding holocrons, kyber crystals, lightsabers (including Mace Windu’s saber), and other rare artifacts considered sacred among Sith Lords.
Lord Kaan most powerful sith of all time. He was most famous as founder and creator of Sith Brotherhood known as “Brotherhood of Darkness” where he united many dark side followers under his command in a single fighting force to defeat Jedi Knights once and for all. Kaan has exceptional Force abilities with both telekinesis powers that allow him to control objects from afar – such as people’s movements or even their minds! – and also lightning power which makes it difficult to approach him from behind because most opponents simply can’t see it coming until it is too late (and they are dead). He developed the infamous thought bomb, a weaponized technique that focuses tremendous amounts of energy into one area resulting in total destruction on a massive scale.
Haazen most powerful sith of all time. Haazen was most famous for being a Jedi Master who turned to the dark side and became an advisor to former Sith Lord Exar Kun (for whom he created lightsaber hilts). In addition, his Force abilities with both telekinesis powers allow him to control objects from afar – such as people’s movements or even their minds! – make it difficult for anybody to approach him from behind because most opponents simply can’t see it coming until it is too late (and they are dead). To top it off, he also has exceptional dueling skills with a lightsaber which allows him to defeat enemies quickly before they have the opportunity to fight back.
Darth Marr most powerful sith of all time. Darth Marr was most famous for being the one who started Operation Dark Storm in an attempt to destroy planets infected with Emperor Vitiate’s mind-controlled agents and then purging them from Sith Empire territories forever. Marr has exceptional Force abilities with both telekinesis powers that allow him to control objects from afar – such as people’s movements or even their minds! – and also lightning power which makes it difficult to approach him from behind because most opponents simply can’t see it coming until it is too late (and they are dead). He developed a legendary lightsaber staff called “le-bladed spinning lightsaber staff” where blades could be launched on enemies, thus allowing him to attack from two fronts at the same time.
Darth Venamis most powerful sith of all time. Darth Venamis was most famous for being an apprentice to Sith Lord Darth Tenebrous who created a biological construct known as Bionic warrior which had the ability to learn and adapt from its opponents’ attacks thus making it nearly unstoppable in combat. Venamis has exceptional dueling skills with a lightsaber that made him a difficult opponent even for skilled Jedi Knights – he could defeat enemies quickly before they have the opportunity to fight back or deflect their attempts at attacking by using his sabers’ unique double-bladed form (which allowed him to attack from two fronts simultaneously). He also developed the infamous thought bomb, a weaponized technique that focuses tremendous amounts of energy into one area resulting in total destruction on a massive scale.
Darth Bandon is most known for being one of the first apprentices to Darth Malak, but he also managed to defeat Revan in a duel and kill many Jedi.
Darth Baras was most famous for his political skills. He managed to become the Voice of the Emperor and eventually became one of Darth Sidious’ most trusted advisors.
Darth Andeddu most famous for being an immortal Sith Lord. He managed to achieve eternal life by transferring his essence into a force-sensitive black gem called the “Soul Jewel”.
Vergere was most famous for her unique ability to survive the dark side. She became one of Darth Sidious most trusted advisors and managed to become a force ghost after she died.
Darth Nox most famous for being the most secretive of all Sith. Although he never achieved much fame, his skills were well known by those who encountered him.
Darth Maladi is the most powerful Sith in Star Wars: Legacy. She was a female Kaleesh who founded her own cult and led it until its destruction at the hands of Darth Talon, which she only survived due to extensive cybernetic modifications.
Darth Nihl is the most powerful Sith in Legacy comics. He was a Nagai warlord who served as leader of the Deathwing until he pledged allegiance to Darth Krayt and became his most loyal follower after killing all others.
Dathka Graush is the most powerful Sith in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He was a giant Wampa who lived on Hoth and became the leader of his own tribe.
Darth Zannah is the most powerful Sith in the Star Wars: The Dark Side Trilogy. She was a Human female who became apprenticed to Darth Bane and succeeded him as leader of the Order of the Sith Lords.
King Adas is the most powerful Sith in the Dark Horse Comics Darth Maul series. He was a male Kushiban who reigned as king of the Sith and brought great prosperity to his people until he was killed in battle with Kossak, leader of rival kingdom Askaj.
Darth Wrath most powerful Sith in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comics. He is a Human male who served as an apprentice to Darth Revan and succeeded him as leader of the Order of Revan until he was killed by his own disciple, Vaner Shan.
Lord Scourge most powerful Sith in the Star Wars: The Old Republic video game. He is a male Zabrak who serves as leader of Emperor’s personal Imperial Guard and has earned the wrath of many Jedi for his role in their destruction.
Savage Opress most powerful Sith in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He is a Dathomirian Zabrak who was apprenticed to Darth Tyranus and later became the right-hand of Asajj Ventress before betraying her at the behest of his brother, Darth Maul.
The Inquisitor most powerful Sith in the Star Wars Rebels television series. He is a male Pau’an who serves as an agent of Darth Vader and leads his secret faction within The Empire, acting to expose any remaining Jedi Knights.
Darth Wyyrlock III
Darth Wyyrlock’s most powerful Sith in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II video game. He is a male Quermian who serves as leader of The Sphere and later The Order but also seeks to overthrow his master Darth Nihilus.
Darth Jadus’s most powerful Sith in the Star Wars: The Old Republic comics. He is a male Human who serves as leader of his own faction within The Empire, and also holds great influence with Darth Marr’s Dark Council.
A Dark Lady of the Sith, Lumiya was most active during the era of Emperor Palpatine. She believed Darth Vader betrayed her master by becoming a Jedi and therefore sought to exact revenge on him through Luke Skywalker (who she recognized as being strong with the force). Her quest for vengeance led to her being severely injured at one point but also allowed her to gain some level of respect from Vader himself who found it difficult not to see any resemblance between his fallen wife and this woman. Lumiya became so powerful in fact that even after 30 years or more without using the Force, she still had enough knowledge left over when she needed them most.
A Sith Lord of the Old Republic, Ludo Kressh was most notable for having recognized that Naga Sadow had become too powerful and threatened to overthrow his place as Dark Lord. He attempted to defeat him in battle but ultimately failed when Sadow’s Massassi warriors set upon him while he slept. Though not widely known by most fans today, this self-proclaimed “Dark Lord” did have some influence on galactic history through influencing Gav and Jori Daragon (the founders of the Empress Teta system). This is only one example however where Kressh influenced events without being directly involved himself.
Traya is most known for being the most powerful of a group of three Sith Lords who literally wrote the rule books on taking over planets with their dark side powers. The other two were Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus, both equally brutal but nowhere near as passionate about ruling through fear and manipulation as Traya was always “the brains” behind this threesome. For many years she trained others to become true masters in using those abilities that most Jedi had forgotten or never even knew existed (such as creating illusions). She eventually betrayed her companions by killing them after they became more trouble than help at one point during their journeys together.
Darth Krayt most likely would not have been included on this list had it not been for his revival. A member of the One Sith that he himself created, Darth Krayt spent most of his life attempting to conquer all known planets through brute force and sheer intimidation until a confrontation with fellow sith Cade Skywalker led to him being killed (or seemingly so). His spirit lived on however thanks in part to having transferred itself into another body but also because the Dark Side could potentially never be destroyed.
A Sith Lord during the time of Darth Plagueis, most notably because he was most responsible for bringing him back into practicing the dark side. He also helped to rebuild his apprentice’s confidence after a defeat against Master Yoda left them both physically and mentally scarred. When not mentoring an up-and-coming master or killing off potential threats to their power, Tenebrous spent most of his life traveling throughout the galaxy learning new forms of manipulation that would be useful in defeating other sith lords just like himself.
A Sith Lord that most people would know by simply hearing his name, Darth Maul was most notable for having been trained as a child (as were most sith) and being considered one of the most powerful at the time. He famously appeared in The Phantom Menace where he fought Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi but also led an entire army under Darth Sidious during what became known as the Clone Wars.
Darth Malak most likely would have been included on any Sith list that was created during his time because he led the entire sith armada into battle against the republic and literally took control of an entire section of the galaxy in doing so. He most notably used a massive ship known as The Leviathan to destroy thousands upon thousands of Republic ships while also dealing with Revan (the Jedi who turned him back to the light side).
Tulak Hord most notably led an army of pirates in an attack against the republic and managed to last for quite some time without being defeated. This allowed him to become one of the most powerful Sith Lords but also had a vast knowledge that most other sith could not have achieved on their own (including how to create holocrons).
Darth Sion most notably led an entire army of Sith warriors in the battle against both the Jedi and his own allies. He did this through sheer brutality and power as well as having mastered not only lightsaber combat but also various forms of hand-to-hand fighting that would leave most people dead after just a few seconds with him. He was most known for being extremely brutal, leading to many battles ending with all of those who fought against him either being killed or taken prisoner (so he could attempt to convert them into sith).
Darth Caedus most notably led the entire sith armada into battle against a vastly superior fleet and managed to win most of the battles thanks in large part due to his mastery of using two lightsabers at once. He also became one of the most powerful Sith Lords ever during that time as well, earning him much respect among other members who had previously been trying to take over for themselves alone but now knew they would need help from others if they were going defeat Darth Cadeus on their own.
A most powerful Sith Lord that most people are probably unaware of due to his time on the planet Onderon and not elsewhere. He was responsible for taking over a large portion of the world which would become one of the largest threats to galactic peace during its entire life because it sought out new dark side users in order to keep itself alive (which is what many sith have been trying to do throughout their history). His final act was also one that most consider quite noteworthy, considering he managed to transfer much of his spirit energy into King Ommin so that both could continue fighting against anyone who came near them even after death.
It is difficult to say who the most powerful Sith of all time was, but it can be argued that Darth Bane had an outsize influence on the Star Wars canon. He created the Rule of Two and instituted the tradition in which only two Sith may exist at any given time. The legacy he left behind has influenced many other aspects of this franchise including lightsaber colors, Sith apprenticeships (Darth Sidious), and even how Jedi Knights are trained. Who do you think would win in a fight?
