Best Ice Skating Movies: A Complete List

Best Ice Skating Movies

If you love ice skating and the winter season, then it’s likely that you enjoy watching ice skating movies too. The best ice skating movies are ones that accurately depict what it feels like to be on the ice. They should also have a good storyline and make viewers feel as though they’re taking an adventure of their own. If you’re looking for some new recommendations, this blog post will give you all of the information that you need to find your next favorite movie!

  1. The Cutting Edge (1992)

– This is one of the best ice skating movies out there. It’s a romantic comedy that follows two Olympic medalists in their journey to find love and success on the ice during their careers. Some great highlights include an electric guitar solo, Canadian actor Alan Thicke as a hockey announcer who falls for his co-host Debra Jo Rupp, and some amazing scenes with real-life Olympians like Brian Boitano and Katarina Witt!

  1. Blades of Glory

(2007) – This movie is a perfect example of the buddy comedy genre. It tells the story of two male figure skaters who are banned from singles skating for life by their coach because he insists that they’re too good to end up on ice together. They get a chance at redemption when they agree to enter an all-male pairs competition as partners against some pretty tough opponents!

  1. I, Tonya

This is a new style of ice skating movie. It is a biographical drama about the life of Tonya Harding. It stars Margot Robbie as Tonya and Sebastian Stan as her husband Jeff Gillooly, with Allison Janney playing LaVona Golden (Tonya’s mother)

The movie retells the events leading up to 1994 when Nancy Kerrigan was attacked in broad daylight at an ice rink in Detroit by club-wielding assailant Shane Stant. While no one knows for sure whether or not Tonya had anything to do with it, what we can say is that she denied any involvement!

  1. Happy Feet Two

After I Tonya there is the popular Happy Feet Two ice skating movie. This is a sequel to the original and it follows Mumble, who has now grown up as an adult penguin.

The Dreamworks Animation film was released in 2011 and stars Elijah Wood, Robin Williams (his final acting role), Hank Azaria, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Sofia Vergara and Brittany Murphy. The story revolves around Mumble’s son Erik trying to find his father among different emperor penguins while also learning how he can help stop global warming!

  1. Miracle on Ice

Miracle on ice is about the 1980 winter Olympics hockey team that won gold.

It is a true story but it’s also an American sports movie, in which all of America was rooting for them to win because they were heavily outmatched by the Russians who were led by their “Big Red Machine” and had such great players as Sergei Makarov, Valeri Kharlamov and Boris Mikhailov on its roster.  The USA ice hockey team consisted mainly of amateurs from various colleges across America like the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (go go gophers!), Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Boston College Eagles, etc. And if you don’t know what those are then I’m sorry you have no life! But seriously this movie really shows how sometimes underdogs can come as winners.

  1. Cool Runnings

This is a true story about the Jamaican bobsled team that managed to qualify for and then competes in the 1988 Winter Olympics. It’s such an amazing and uplifting movie because it talks about people from different backgrounds coming together, overcoming obstacles, and achieving their goals – one of them is going on winter vacation! Imagine People from Jamaica who never even seen ice or snow before, having to catch up with the other teams who have been training for years and then taking on the world.

This movie is a must watch!
